Our Wild Weekend - 26th & 27th September
Remember, all sessions are outdoors with minimal cover so please dress appropriately for the weather.

Saturday 26th
11am - 1pm: Make Your Mark with local artist and maker Lauren Pratt
Come and explore natural art tools & materials, including paint made from soil and stone, and be inspired by the nature around you.
his is a drop-in session, suitable for all ages and abilities. Please bring a chair or mat if you want to spend time sitting/drawing etc.
2pm - 4pm - The Art of Decay: Clay Workshop with local artist Lucy Dean-Moore - BOOK HERE
This hands-on workshop explores organic forms, texture and natural cycles through clay. We'll hand-build a sculptural piece inspired by nature's end-of-season beauty. You'll leave with a unique piece and a new way of seeing beauty in the overlooked.
The workshop is suitable for all levels and ages and All materials are provided. Please bring a chair to sit on.
6pm - 7:30pm: An Equinox Celebration with local author and celebrant Keli Tomlin
Together we celebrate the recent Equinox and the turn of the Wheel of the Year from Summer towards Autumn. Expect stories, poetry, time for exploration, reflection, and simple ceremony that will set you on the path into the new season.
Suitable for all ages. Bring a chair and anything you need to sit comfortably... we'll see you there.
Sunday 27th
10am - 12:30pm: Equinox Sensory Walk & Mark Making with local artist Saima Rasheed - BOOK HERE
Take a gentle sensory walk through the garden - slow down, listen, touch and notice the changes taking place as summer moves into autumn. The workshop will focus on experimental mark-making. Participants will respond to what they hear and experience. Where possible, we will use found natural materials such as twigs, grasses and leaves as mark-making tools, experimenting with
the different lines, textures and patterns they can produce.
The workshop will be playful and accessible for adults, children and families, with no previous art experience needed.
Please bring a chair or mat for the drawing portion of the workshop.
1pm - 3pm: Natural Art Materials with local artist and maker Lauren Pratt - BOOK HERE
This workshop will equip participants with the knowledge needed to make their own paint from stones & soil found nearby. To pass on knowledge of ancient processes and create connection between the local landscape and the people living there.
Utilising these natural art tools & materials, participants will also take part in a self-led mark-making and process-based drawing session inspired by the nature they find around them.
Suitable for over 12yrs old and any level of experience. Please bring a chair.
4pm - 6pm: Bioblitz! with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust
Explore the creatures and species that live in our Community Garden. Staff from DWT will guide you to look int he right places and crucially to recognise what you find! This is a drop-in session suitable for all ages.
6:45pm - 7:45pm: Bat Walk with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust - BOOK HERE
Join expert guides as we discover the silent world of bats right here in the heart of Padfield. This session is limited to just 12 participants, so booking is essential. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a torch!
Thanks to our grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are continuing to offer free events hosted by local creatives this September.

Children are welcome at all sessions unless otherwise stated. If you want to bring a young person to a 'booked' event they must have their own booking. All under16s must have a responsible adult with them at all times.
Our session leaders
Lauren Pratt
Lauren Pratt is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in Theatre Performance Design.
By day she is a freelance Scenic Painter working in TV, Film & Theatre and has worked on productions such as Peaky Blinders, House of Guinness and Batman.
She moved to Padfield from the South Coast and is passionate about history, ancient painting techniques and archaeology. She enjoys getting out into nature and foraging for plants, rocks & clays to make her own pigments, which she then uses in her own artistic practice.
She also makes sculptures and paintings using materials such as Encaustic Wax, Plaster, Textiles and found objects.
She is a founding member of Arkane Collective, a Glossop based art group that creates exciting workshops, exhibitions and immersive events with a deep connection to folklore & nature.
Lucy Dean-Moore
Lucy uses art as a space for joy and expression — exploring environments, connection, and voice through colour, theme, and abstraction. Her practice is grounded in what art can open up in people, using creativity as a tool for resilience.
Saima Rasheed
Saima Rasheed is a UK based artist born in Lahore and currently living locally. Trained in South Asian miniature painting at the National College of Arts, her practice has developed into a contemporary painting language grounded in discipline, layering and precision.
Keli Tomlin
Keli is an author and celebrant living in Padfield and a trustee of Padfield Community Spaces.
They are an animist, a queer and neurodivergent human, a mum, and a lifelong walker of the Wheel of the Year.
They use words, story and simple ritual to celebrate the seasons and seasonal transitions, and to foster a deeper kinship between humans and the world around them.
